Pharis and Jason Romero perform for Performances in the Park 'Listen Live' 2021. Filmed on location by the Little Horsefly River in Pharis and Jason's re-finished barn, the duo play songs from their 2020 release, Bet on Love, as well as a selection of new and old-time favorites. Join us for powerfully timeless folk from two of the Cariboo's best-loved performers and creators (and their special guest!). http://www.pharisandjason.com/ https://www.marinpatenaude.com/ Video by Rick Magnell, audio by Brandon Hoffman. Some scratchy old records and a custom banjo led to their meeting in 2007, and they quickly knew they were in for the long haul. They've since won two Juno awards and multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards, released six records, toured all over, and performed on A Prairie Home Companion and CBC's The Vinyl Café. The sound of their two voices together is quietly show-stopping. The songs are inspired by the world they live in, with a powerful dose of the early country and folk they so dearly love. Balancing a bustling boutique banjo business and two young kids with the busy life of active musicians, the balancing act itself becomes an art form. Pharis and Jason use the creative spark from that balancing to take the listener on a trip through their distinctive songwriting, singing and playing. Their newest record, ‘Bet On Love’, featuring guests John Reischman on mandolin and Patrick Metzger on bass, joined with producer Marc Jenkins to bring an album of plain feelings and acoustic instrumentation to lush, love-affirming life.

Bats & Dao - Listen Live 2021 - Performances in the Park

Bats & Dao perform for Performances in the Park 'Listen Live' 2021. Presented by the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society, 'Listen Live' brings you the best of local and regional talent, like Horsefly's Ciel Patenaude and Brent Morton, in their new iteration as Bats & Dao. Filmed on location at Electric Bill Irwin's studio at the Belle's Lake Retreat, Bats and Dao present songs from their new release Reasons and Fables. Supported by a full band for this performance, the songs Ciel Patenaude has written in her songwriting debut bring the listener to a fairly magical mythical place. Her partner in life and art, Brent Morton, fills out the compositions with his usual evocative and consonant rhythm and beat. https://www.batsanddao.ca/ https://www.earthdancebotanicals.com/retreat Video by Rick Magnell, audio by Brandon Hoffman. One may have heard it told that Brent's lawyers insisted on language describing a full length record to be written into the pre-nup. Two children and seven years later, it can be said that the relationship has finally been consummated with the 2021 release of Bat's & Dao's debut, Reasons and Fables. Pairing Brent's experience as "Drum & Bell Tower" and "Lyle Bats" with Ciel's lifelong perambulations with music (including The Patenaude Family Band), Reasons and Fables features Ciel's evocative and concordant song writing entwined in the foliage of Brent's complementary branchings. For this ‘Listen Live’ session, Bats & Dao are accompanied by: Graham Serl on drums Dena Bauman on keys and vocals Brandon Hoffman on bass Tanja Iwan on violin And Cornelius Iwan on cello.
